Points in place of maid service?

I am amazed at the note on my bed upon my recent check in at the Marriott City Center in Salt Lake that I can receive 500 bonus points in lieu of maI'd service for up to three consecutive nights .  Who at Marriott thought this was a good idea? I am looking for service not do it yourself.  and then still, "the envelope please."  Time to go back to higher standards and not cutting corners!
